Frequently asked questions
Answers to your questions, every step of the way.
University Endorsement
Are the programs university-endorsed?
In Academic Alliance with Galileo University, we offer accreditation at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.
Do I receive a degree upon completing ICF's programs?
Our programs are endorsed in accordance with CEPS (Council of Private Higher Education). Upon completing your studies you receive a bachelor's or master's degree issued by Galileo University.
What is the ICF's relationship to Galileo University?
Our Institute forms the Faculty of Psychology of Galileo University.
Course Equivalencies
Do you accept transfer credits?
We accept equivalencies for approved courses from any university in Guatemala or abroad, at the bachelor's or master's level, up to 50% of the program. Restrictions apply to academic honors and distinctions.
What is the equivalency process?
Complete the ICF enrollment paperwork; submit the original certificate of approved courses; submit a copy of each course syllabus (signed and sealed by the university); and pay the equivalency fee.
What does each equivalency cost?
Q110 per Academic Credit (CA) + Q300 for processing. Courses average 3 credits; some practical courses are 4 or 5. Fees are subject to update.
Financial Aid
Do you offer scholarships?
We do not have a scholarship program. However, we offer flexible enrollment payment: installments of 3 or 5 payments through March of the academic year. The first monthly fee may also be paid by January 31.
Is there an exception?
Galileo University employees may apply for the discount or student-credit program through direct employment referral. Restrictions apply; the process depends on Galileo University and requires a special authorization letter.
Enrollment Requirements
Is there an admission exam?
No. Only a psychological profile of the student is completed after enrollment.
What is the enrollment process?
Enrollment has 2 steps: 1) complete the online enrollment form and 2) submit the paperwork at our ICF Campus. On the online form you can upload proof of the first payment and a portrait photo for the physical file.
What paperwork is required for bachelor's programs?
An authenticated photocopy of the high school diploma, an authenticated photocopy of DPI or passport, and 2 recent passport-size photographs.
What paperwork is required for master's programs?
An authenticated photocopy of the bachelor's degree (you may enroll with completed coursework), an authenticated photocopy of DPI or passport, and 2 recent passport-size photographs.
How long do I have to complete the paperwork?
The maximum period is 1 year.
Clinical Practice
How many practice hours are required?
Students complete 160 hours of clinical practice per year (about 4 hours per week). In bachelor's programs it begins in the fourth year; in master's programs it runs throughout, starting in February.
How is the practice schedule set?
We assign the Practice Center based on the availability form completed by the student. The schedule depends on the assigned center; we have weekday and weekend centers, mornings and afternoons.
Can my job count as clinical practice?
No. The practice represents the student's participation in the ICF's social commitment and work with its partner institutions.
Mid-cycle Entry
Can I enroll mid-year?
No, since the study program includes prerequisite courses.
Are there exceptions?
Yes, as long as the person has the interest, prior knowledge, and/or equivalencies for the previous semester's subjects. Missing courses are taken in the next available cycle, with equivalent courses available across schedules (Saturday or Wednesday). Special cases require authorization from the Directorate.
Failed Courses
What is the minimum passing grade?
The minimum passing grade is 61 points, but we require a general average of 70 to meet the academic-excellence graduate profile.
Are there make-up exams?
A recovery exam is available if a course is failed, provided the student has the minimum coursework score. It is scheduled before the next cycle begins and covers the entire cycle's content. If failed again, the course must be retaken.
What does the recovery exam cost?
The final evaluation costs Q300 and registration for the recovery exam costs Q50.
Can exams be deferred?
When force majeure prevents a student from taking an exam, they may request authorization to take it in an extraordinary period by submitting a written request, preferably in advance.
What grade averages exist?
The Academic Average (PA) is weighted by each course's academic credits. The Semester Average (PS) is the weighted average of one semester's load. The Cumulative General Average (PGA) is the weighted average of all approved courses to date.
Graduation Process
Graduation requirements for bachelor's programs
Once coursework is complete, students have 3 options: approval of a thesis and the Private General Exam; taking the Private General Exam and substituting the thesis with ICF postgraduate studies; or substituting both with ICF master's-level studies.
Graduation requirements for master's programs
No thesis or private exam is required. All coursework must be approved; students complete a monographic research project as part of the "Monographic Seminar" course.
